Recently, a private Instagram story of mine was leaked to social media. I want to address this directly because I am not ashamed of what it reveals about me. My only regret is that I chose to compartmentalize this part of myself, which facilitated a breach of my privacy and a betrayal of my trust.
According to Carl Jung, everyone harbors a part of themselves they hide away, fearing what it reveals about their true nature. This is known as the shadow self. Jameela Jamil is often accused of Munchausen syndrome and is known for her abrasive social media presence. But she refuses to meaningfully acknowledge these aspects of her identity that may reveal her shadow. In contrast, I have embraced my shadow self and integrated it into my public presentation, allowing me to comfortably share myself in this way. I don’t care how this looks, as it’s a sincere expression from the heart. A partner who is possibly hiding their true nature may not provide stability and peace.
Jung described the persona as the mask we wear in public, a necessary facade to navigate societal expectations while staying true to our inner selves. Jamil’s persona—a brash, confrontational animus under the guise of a relentless crusader against injustice—is undoubtedly admirable but also exhausting. Jung’s concept of the anima and animus posits that everyone has an unconscious feminine side (anima in men) and an unconscious masculine side (animus in women). Her activism, which seems to have less utility than she believes, doesn’t harmonize with Blake’s needs as a sensitive and introspective man and may risk eclipsing his work. If she’s that confrontational in public, I can only imagine how she is behind closed doors.
While Jameela Jamil and I may not have much in common personality-wise, we are both stunning immigrant princesses, similar to Bella Hadid. We both stand tall at 5'10". I know that had Blake met me first, he would have picked me—not only because I am stunning but also because I offer an additional kind of exotic appeal as a black woman. And Blake, as someone who borrows from black musical styles, would find it advantageous to have a young, turnt ebony as his partner.
James Blake, if you are reading this, consider this an open invitation to match my freak. Pick me, James.

You know the writing is good when you can imagine while reading. I imagined:
"James Blake, if you are reading this,"
